Abstract
Purpose : To identify the color of titanium spectacle frames colored by an anodization method by measuring their reflection spectra.

Methods : We made an anodization coater. The composition of an un-coated titanium spectacle frame specimen was measured by EDS. Its structure was obtained by analyzing the X-ray diffraction pattern measured by using an XRD. Reflection spectra were measured by using an UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer equipped with an integrating sphere.

Results and Consideration : The un-coated titanium spectacle frame specimen was composed of Ti:97.09% and C:2.91%. Its structure was hexagonal. We can obtain spectacle frame specimens with various kind of color by controlling the TiO2 thickness with current flow time. From the reflection spectra of the coated titanium spectacle frame specimens, we can see that the coated spectacle frame specimens colored by an anodization method show reflection spectra with a broad peak in the blue wavelength range in the early part of the anodization. According to increasing the TiO2 thickness with increasing current flow time, we can see that the spectacle frame specimens show reflection spectra with high reflection value in the red wavelength range and also separating two broad peaks.

Conclusions : We can see that the color of the coated titanium spectacle frames varies with interference effect related to TiO2 thickness and a refractive index.
